Rain landing on one side of this community ends up in the Gulf of Mexico. Rain on the other side ends up in the Atlantic.
Lakes of the Four Seasons sits on the divide between the Mississippi and Great Lakes watersheds. Lake Holiday, the larger shape on this board, drains south through Stony Run into the Kankakee, then the Illinois, then the Mississippi. Trouthaven Lake, a few minutes away inside the same gates, runs north into the Deep River and out to Lake Michigan.
None of this water existed before 1966. An Indianapolis builder named Thomas Perine bought thousands of acres of farmland and woodlot and laid out a private community around lakes that had to be dug first. Lake Holiday covers about a hundred and ninety acres now, and connects to Big Bass Lake, the smaller shape here. The county line between Lake and Porter runs straight through the middle of the neighbourhood.

How this one was made
Everything white on this board is small: the lettering, the compass rose, the heart. White is also the colour most easily spoiled by engraving soot, which turns it a dirty yellow brown if any is left loose in the grain, and the finer the detail the harder that soot is to clear out before pouring. Walnut helps in one respect, since the contrast is high and white reads cleanly against it, but it leaves no margin at all if the pour picks up dirt on the way in.
