If the body of water is on Google Maps, we can engrave it. Send us any lake, river, bay, island, or stretch of coastline in the world. We build the map into solid hardwood with a hand-poured epoxy inlay for the water, and we send you a digital mockup for approval before we cut anything.
Every board is made to order in our Mississauga, Ontario shop. No two are the same, because no two shorelines are.
Choose your layout
The shape of your body of water decides which layout works. We will recommend one when we build your mockup, but here is how they differ.
Lake board
The entire lake or body of water sits inside the borders of the board, surrounded by wood on all sides. Best for lakes with a defined, closed shoreline.
Coastline board
A section of the water runs off the edge of the board. Best for oceanfront, large lakes like the Great Lakes, and rivers, where the whole body of water will not fit at a readable scale.
Island board
A complete landmass sits in the middle with water running off all four edges. Best for islands and peninsulas.

Materials and how it is built
The board starts as solid hardwood, not veneer or plywood. We laser engrave the shoreline, place names, coordinates, and any text you have asked for directly into the surface, then route the water channel and pour tinted two-part epoxy into it by hand. It is the same class of epoxy used to build and repair wooden boats, which is what gives the water its depth and clarity rather than the flat look of a painted inlay.
Once the resin cures we sand the face level and seal it with a UV-cured commercial tabletop finish, the type used on restaurant and hospitality tabletops. It is optically clear, non-yellowing, and resists heat, chemicals, abrasion and scratching. The wood grain stays visible and the resin keeps its gloss.
The back is engraved with our mark, fitted with a sawtooth hanger, and padded with two felt feet so the board hangs flush and level.
How the custom order process works
- Place your order and tell us the body of water, plus any names, coordinates, or text you want engraved.
- We build your mockup and email it to you, usually within 1 to 2 business days.
- You approve it, or ask for changes. Nothing gets cut until you say yes.
- We build your board, which takes 1 to 2 weeks.
- We ship it with tracking, 3 to 6 days across Canada and the US.
Watch your spam folder. Your mockup comes by email, and that is the step that holds up most orders. Add Admin@KeywayDesigns.com and Info@KeywayDesigns.com to your safe sender list when you order.

Frequently asked questions
Can you engrave any lake or body of water?
If it can be found on Google Maps, we can engrave it. That includes lakes, rivers, reservoirs, bays, islands, and ocean coastlines, anywhere in the world.
How long does it take to get my mockup?
Most mockups go out within 1 to 2 business days. Allow up to 5 business days during busy periods.
How long until my board arrives?
Roughly 2 to 4 weeks from the day you order. That covers 1 to 2 business days for your mockup, 1 to 2 weeks of production after you approve it, and 3 to 6 days in transit.
What can I have engraved on the board?
Along with the map itself, we can engrave a family name, the lake or place name, GPS coordinates, a compass rose, and location markers for specific spots such as a cottage, dock, or resort. Tell us what matters and we will lay it out on the mockup.
Can I get a different size?
The epoxy board is made in one size, 16" x 10.5". If you need a different size, our framed engraved lake map is available in seven sizes from 5" x 7" up to 24" x 36".
Can I choose different colours?
We offer the water and text colours shown in the options above. If you have something specific in mind, contact us before ordering and we will tell you whether we can do it.
Do you ship to the United States?
Yes. We ship across Canada and the United States, typically 3 to 6 days in transit with tracking.
How do I hang it?
The sawtooth hanger is already installed. One nail or wall hook is enough. The two felt feet sit flush with the hanger so the board rests level and does not mark the wall.
How do I care for it?
Wipe with a soft dry cloth or a slightly damp one. No solvents or abrasive cleaners. Hang it out of prolonged direct sunlight, as you would any piece of art.
Can I return a custom board?
Custom pieces cannot be returned, which is exactly why we send a mockup first. Check it carefully before you approve it. Our standard warranty still covers defects in manufacturing and workmanship.
Looking for the framed version?
If you prefer engraved wood without the resin inlay, our framed engraved lake map board uses the same custom mockup process and comes in seven sizes.
