The Forgotten Coast is a registered trademark. The Apalachicola Bay Chamber of Commerce first used it on September 1, 1992.
The story behind it is that the state left this stretch off a tourism brochure, or a map, depending on who tells it. Accounts differ on whether that was an oversight or a decision. Either way the chambers of commerce along the coast took the insult and made a brand out of it.
What it covers is not settled either. Most definitions run from Mexico Beach east to St. Marks, about a hundred miles. Some stop at Alligator Point. The star on this board sits at the western end of every version.
Hurricane Michael came ashore at Mexico Beach on October 10, 2018, at Category 5. The town was largely destroyed and has been rebuilding since.

How this one was made
The blue runs off the left and bottom edges, so those sides are dammed at the board edge rather than at a shoreline. THE FORGOTTEN COAST is unengraved cherry standing inside the pour, so it went under the blue and came back at the sanding stage. The rivers inland are the slow part, hairline channels wandering across bare cherry, filled in the same blue as the Gulf but with none of its width to help the pour move. The black type and the compass are a separate section with a dam of their own.
