Tree of Life - Wood Phone Case

The Tree of Life is one of the oldest symbols there is, showing up across cultures as a stand-in for growth, connection, family, and the way everything roots back to something. This wooden phone case renders it simply: a single bare tree, branches spread wide, standing on its own against an open background.

The Tree of Life is built from two woods. A walnut backer in warm medium-brown forms the background, and a pale maple inlay forms both the tree and the rounded hill it grows from at the base of the case. The tree is bare, with no leaves, so the full spread of its trunk and branches reads clearly against the darker walnut behind it. The contrast between the cream maple and the brown walnut is what carries the whole design, clean and uncluttered. Because both woods are real veneer with their own grain, no two Tree of Life cases look exactly the same.

Each veneer is finished with a semi-gloss protective coat before being laser-cut, with the fine branches of the maple tree cut precisely enough to stay crisp against the walnut. The pieces are then fitted together by hand in our Mississauga workshop, seating like puzzle pieces, and the completed design is pressed flush to the case back so the surface stays smooth under your thumb. The Tree of Life is one of the more understated and symbolic pieces in the Keyway lineup, carried by clean contrast and a design with real meaning behind it.
