Prize Kraken - Wood & Silver Phone Case

There are parts of the ocean deep and dark enough that humans simply do not belong, but that has never stopped us from wondering what lurks down there. The Prize Kraken wooden phone case leans into that old sailor's myth, the giant sea monster waiting in the black water, and renders it in the style of a vintage maritime engraving.

The kraken itself is cut from silver acrylic and finely engraved: a detailed octopus with a bulbous head, two staring eyes, and a tangle of curling tentacles lined with suckers, all picked out in crisp black linework like an old scientific illustration or scrimshaw etching. It sits against a dark wenge backer, the near-black wood standing in for deep water so the silver creature seems to surface out of the gloom. Because the wenge is real wood veneer, the grain behind the kraken is a little different on every case.

Each piece is made by hand in our Mississauga workshop. The wenge veneer is finished with a semi-gloss coat before being laser-cut, the kraken's fine detail is engraved into the silver acrylic before assembly, and the wood and acrylic are fitted together like puzzle pieces and pressed flush to the case back. Holding all that engraved detail crisp at this scale is the whole trick of the design. Available for all current iPhone and Samsung Galaxy models, with integrated MagSafe magnets and a soft microfiber interior lining on iPhone 13 and newer.
