Pineapple - Wood Phone Case

The pineapple has been a symbol of hospitality and welcome for centuries, finding its way onto colonial doorways, hotel signage, and just about every tropical aesthetic in between. The Pineapple wooden phone case brings that warmth into something you'll actually use every day, with a run of gold and silver pineapples flowing diagonally across the back of the case in a pattern that's hard to miss.

The Pineapple is built on a walnut backer, with a run of pineapples flowing in a continuous diagonal column from the top-right of the case to the bottom-left. The fruit bodies are inlaid in gold acrylic with the diamond scale pattern of pineapple skin engraved into the surface, while the leafy crowns are inlaid in silver acrylic with individual leaf detail etched in. The diagonal arrangement and overlapping foliage give the design a sense of forward motion across the back of the case, framed by the warm grain of the walnut behind. Because the walnut is real wood veneer, the grain pattern and exact tone of the background vary slightly from case to case.

The walnut veneer is finished with a semi-gloss protective coat before being laser-cut to receive the inlays. The gold and silver acrylic pieces are cut and engraved ahead of time, with the diamond pattern on the fruit bodies and the leaf detail on the crowns added before anything is assembled. Each piece is then fitted into the walnut by hand in our Mississauga workshop, seating like puzzle pieces against the backer, and the completed design is pressed flush to the case back. The Pineapple is one of the warmer-weather pieces in the Keyway lineup, leaning into summer carry and the kind of tropical, hospitality aesthetic that the symbol itself carries.
